A chicken fan got a creepy surprise in his cheeky Nando’s order as a deep fried moth was among the chips.

Pictures show the crispy critter at the bottom of the chip box, fried to a perfect crunch along with the potato snacks.

The restaurant chain was forced to apologise and a Nando’s spokesperson told the Yorkshire Evening Post that the firm “regrets any distress this event caused”.

The disgusted man from Leeds must have thought his afternoon treat was turning into a Bushtucker trial after placing the £80 order on Friday, at the Birstall Junction 27 branch in the city.

He was out for some nosh with his work pals and the opted for the Peri-Peri favourite for their office lunch.

The moth was not on the menu

The man – who asked to be kept anonymous – said he found the crunchy critter at the bottom of a chip box, the hungry group having ordered five.

The man said: “It was a web order of around £80 for our office lunch on Friday so we went to collect around 12.30pm Friday dinner time. 

“After eating the full meal the deep fried moth was found at the bottom of one of the chip boxes, we had around 5 boxes of chips between us.”

Nando’s are taking the mistake seriously

Nando’s promised to investigate after the man contacted them on social media.

A spokesperson told the paper that the company was confident this was as “isolated incident” and the firm would be doing everything in their power to “make sure it does not happen again”.

They said: “We have sincerely apologised to [the customer] for what happened, and regret any distress this event caused.

“We’ve reached out to [the customer] so that our health and safety team can conduct a comprehensive review of the processes at this restaurant.

“We are confident that this was an isolated incident, and will do everything we can to make sure it does not happen again.”
