Each morning when we get up and each night before we go to bed, like clockwork, we clean our teeth.

It’s a part of our daily routine we’ve been doing for as long as we can remember.

But did you ever stop to think you might be doing it wrong?

Well, according to a viral TikTok video, our everyday teeth cleaning method isn’t quite right.

You start with an alcohol mouth wash, then floss, then brush and finish with fluoride rinse

A man with great dental health shared the “correct” way to clean teeth with his wife, who was so taken aback by it, she decided to share his top tips with people on social media – and even dentists agreed her partner was on to something.

The woman, who posts on the TikTok account @KassySlays90, explained how her husband had told her that the key is to start with an alcohol mouth wash, then to floss, then brush your teeth and finally you finish off with a whitening fluoride rinse.

She said: “My husband has been keeping a secret from me, he says that the right way to brush your teeth is to first rinse with an alcohol mouthwash, then to floss, then to brush your teeth and then to use a fluoride rinse.

“He says if you do the alcohol mouthwash last it’ll remove the fluoride that you just put on your teeth by brushing them, so you should do it first to kill the germs and then finish off with a whitening fluoride rinse.”

She added: “Apparently the last time he went to the dentist, the hygienist told him he didn’t even really need a cleaning.

“I was today years old and I’ve got terrible teeth.”

People absolutely lost their minds over the video, which has been liked over 625,000 times.

Many said they had been under the impression you were meant to floss before using mouthwash – so this was a game changer for them.

One person commented: “WHY DON’T THEY SAY THIS WHEN YOU GO TO THE DENTIST.”

Another wrote: “OMG that lowkey makes perfect sense.”

A third said: “Why do I do everything wrong?”

Several dental experts also responded on her video to confirm her husband was correct.

“I’m a dental hygienist and he’s correct,” said one professional.

A second added: “Dental hygienist here and I approve!”

A different user gave the method a go and admitted their mouth felt much cleaner.

They admitted: “I legit just did the first three steps because I don’t have a fluoride mouth wash but dang does my mouth feel C L E A N.”
