The Samsung Galaxy A80. Samsung

Although the Samsung Galaxy A80 is already available in certain countries (such as the United Kingdom), it has yet to land in India. That will change soon though, as we now have confirmed details for the Galaxy A80’s arrival (via Android Central).

The Samsung Galaxy A80 will hit store shelves in India on August 1, only a few days before the global launch of another Samsung smartphone. The price for the Galaxy A80 is set at 47,990 rupees (~$697).

The Galaxy A80 launched in April of this year and is notable as being the only device in Samsung’s new “A” series to have a slider mechanism. The top half of the back of the device mechanically slides up when you put the camera app into selfie mode. While that happens, the triple rear camera setup also flips around which allows you to use the same camera array for selfies as you would using the phone’s default camera mode.

This innovative system also allows the front of the phone to be all screen, with a screen-to-body ratio of nearly 86 percent and no notch or punch-hole cutout to be seen.

The Galaxy A80 comes with 8GB of RAM, 128GB of internal storage, a Snapdragon 730 processor, a 3,700mAh battery, and Android 9 Pie out-of-the-box.

Interestingly, the OnePlus 7 Pro has some similar features: a pop-up selfie cam (although not a flip camera as on the A80), an all-screen display, lots of internal storage, tons of RAM, and interesting colorways. The 7 Pro, however, has a flagship processor (the Snapdragon 855), a larger battery (4,000mAh), and a Quad HD+ display resolution (the A80 is stuck with a Full HD+ resolution).

The 7 Pro has been on sale in India for months now with a starting price of 48,999 rupees (~$712), which is not too much more than what Samsung is asking for the A80. It will be interesting to see if Indian buyers will be tempted to save a relatively small amount of cash to buy the A80 over the 7 Pro and lose out on those higher-end features.
