Arsenal get huge Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang boost as star striker edges closer to signing new three-year deal
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is reportedly close to signing a new Arsenal contract.
The 31-year-old’s current deal expires at the end of the 2020/21 season, leading to speculation about his long-term future at the Emirates.
The Gabon international has a phenomenal goalscoring record for Arsenal with 70 goals in just 109 appearances since he signed from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018.
Aubameyang netted twice as Mikel Arteta’s side beat Chelsea 2-1 in the FA Cup final last weekend.
He was asked about his future in the aftermath of that success but refused to comment on the recent stories.
“I am really not thinking about this now I really just want to enjoy with the guys and take the trophy now,” he told BT Sport.
“I think everyone gave their best for the team today, we deserved it. The journey has been long, great evening, I will enjoy all night for sure, I had this inspiration.”
The Gunners faced a tough choice this summer of letting his contract run down or cashing in on him if the forward did not pen a new deal.
The Daily Telegraph report that Aubameyang is close to signing a new three-year contract with Arsenal that would run until the end of the 2023 season.
This also includes a significant raise in his current £200,000-a-week wages to around £250,000-a-week.
The Gunners are also expected to land Brazilian winger Willian on a free transfer from Chelsea as they look to strengthen ahead of next season.
However, the club have been criticised for embarking on big-money signings after announcing 55 members of staff will lose their jobs due to the financial impact of the coronavirus crisis.
